For Business Owners, Managers and Team Leaders

Being flexible to change can be critical - and even life saving

Sometimes circumstances override your planning, and a change is in order. While obviously not always life-threatening, not responding to the current situation can kill trust and leadership with your team. Be aware, and be pragmatic. Changing plans can actually win the respect of your team.

Change And Team Morale And The Coach Leader In You

Whenever a change is in order, you need to consider how to present the case to your team. Individuals make up your team. And both individuals, and a team can resist change.

But as the leader, you need to bring about appropriate change. Change can be very beneficial. But do consider the impact it could have on your team. I have found that presenting the need for a change in the right way, and especially drawing a picture of how beneficial the change will be, can really get a team to rally in support.

I am sure you've seen the opposite. A team is very capable of ‘digging its heals in’ and resisting. A team can seem just like a 2-year-old having a tantrum. The halls of your office seem quite icy in those situations.

Apply The ‘Simple Six’ Framework

And my solution to this is to use the framework of the Simple Six (you'll get an introduction to my Simple Six when you enter your name and email in the right sidebar here on the blog).

I really do work through the steps while considering the TEAM and how a change will affect the team. What will the new situation be? And how can I convey that to them so they will pick up the cause, rather than fighting and resisting every inch of the way?
